The Old Stone Cross. The Causeway. March.

Progress Report

Progress Report

On Wednesday 27th June, I paid a visit to the workshop of Kent Memorials at
Wisbech, to view the progress upon the piece of limestone, donated by Rtn.
Don Morris, as a plinth on which to mount the March Rotary Club Jubilee
Plaque.

As can be seen, work is now well in hand, and the Craftsman in the photos is
Gary Manning, a very pleasant guy.

He told me it needs about another days work to complete the task. When he,
and assistant, Chad Copestake, started to prepare the stone they found many
large crystals embedded. It is though these might be either Quartz, or
Calcium, leeched from the limestone over the years by water.

He added the stone is a very fine example, and heavy. It would need a
mechanical device to lift.

The stone will be set upon a concrete base, making to secure.

I did not think to actually measure the stone, but the stainless steel plaque
is proportional, the engraving is first class, and it will be a lasting
prestige contribution to commemorate Her Majesties 60th Anniversary on the
throne, to the town of March, from our Club.
