Annual meeting when members of the 4 clubs in Cambridge share fellowship and dinner, 6.30 for 7.00pm at the University Arms Hotel,Cambridge. Speakers will be DG Trevor Sayer and Tim Winter.


4-CLUBS EVENING - open to South Cambridge, Cambridge, Cambridge Rutherford, Sawston.

 

Speaker will be :

Tim Winter (Sheikh Abdul-Hakim Murad) - described as Britain's, and one of the world's, most significant and influential Muslims - is Shaykh Zayed Lecturer in Islamic Studies at Cambridge University.

He will be speaking, and taking questions, on

                'The Implications of British Muslim Demographic Growth'.

Tim is Director of Studies in Theology, Wolfson College; Secretary, Muslim Academic Trust (London); Director, The Anglo-Muslim Fellowship for Eastern Europe; President, UK Friends of Bosnia-Herzegovina; Director, the Sunna Project, publishing the most respected versions of the major Sunni Hadith collections, the most important texts in Islam after the Quran.

He is at the forefront of the move to build a new mosque on Mill Road, Cambridge.

The son of an architect and an artist, he attended Westminster School, graduating from Cambridge University with a double first in Arabic. He studied and taught traditional Islamic sciences at the University of al-Azhar in Egypt and then worked in Jeddah administering a commercial translation office before moving in the late 80s to London University's School of Oriental and African Studies to concentrate on Turkish and Persian.

Conversant in both traditional Islamic scholarship and Western thought and civilization, Tim's profile and work on many Islamic topics have attracted media coverage both in the Muslim World and the West. He has often contributed to Al-Jazeera broadcasts and is a regular speaker on Thought for the Day on Radio 4's Today programme.

Tim has written extensively on the origins of suicidal terrorism.

His academic publications include many articles on Islamic theology and Muslim-Christian relations, two books in Turkish on political theology and occasional book reviews in Times Literary Supplement. He is Editor, Cambridge Companion to Classical Islamic Theology, and author of Bombing without Moonlight, awarded the King Abdullah I Prize for Islamic Thought. He was Executive Producer of The Alchemist of Happiness, a film which has won several prizes.

Tim's younger brother, Henry Winter, is football correspondent of the Daily Telegraph.
