Our Skills

The skills we all bring to Rotary are critical and pivotal to our success.

Our skill sets are unique, both to individual Rotarians and to Rotary as a whole.

They don’t just depend upon our professional backgrounds.

We have developed skills through our hobbies and interests, our other community commitments, our general life experiences, and our time in Rotary.

We can use our skills to develop (ethical) projects and we can share those skills with our fellow Rotarians.

This is our UNIQUE SELLING POINT.  This is Vocational Service.

Our skills and how we apply them is our greatest asset.

WE NEED TO KNOW OUR MEMBERS’ SKILLS.

  •      Please encourage your members to print and fill out the form below
  •     Tell us when you recruit a new member to your Club.
  •     Keep District up to date - you may have specific skills that could be useful to other Clubs!

  ACTION

  •   Carry out a Skills Survey.
  •   Consider projects that make use of your members’ skills.
  •   Identify gaps in your Club’s skill set.
  •   Use our database to find who has the skills you need for your project.

Aspects of Rotary that affect our Vocational Service

High ethical standards are at the heart of Rotary.

Rotary has well-established standards:

  •   The Four- Way Test
  •   The Object of Rotary
  •   Rotary Code of Conduct

Feedback from mid-term review 2015-16

Two Districts shared details of Vocational skills surveys they had carried out.

They commented that having the list of skills helped them to respond to appeals for help with projects.

Latest definition of Vocational Service:

“Putting something back for the good of others”

“Rotarians using what they have to do good in the world”

Social Mobility Questionnaire

There had been 46% feed back from Clubs.

There is a need to tackle numeracy, especially financial literacy, in some of the more deprived communities in the UK. Debbie Hodge confirmed that feed back from this survey will be shared with Baroness Sheppard.
