We responded to an appeal for library books from a primary school.

Just to prove that our Club website is read by people other than Rotarians, I received an enquiry, via the website, a couple of months ago from the secretary of St. Patrick's Primary School in Langley Moor.  She told me that they were refurbishing and re-stocking their library and wondered if we could donate a book.

This seemed like a good idea - simple and effective - and I was sure that we would be able to muster a few suitable books from among our members.  So it was on September 28th that President Arthur, Rtn. Pauline Crow and I visited the school to hand over a dozen or so new books.

We were met by the school secretary, Mrs Sonya Hall, and introduced to the head teacher, Mrs Pauline Burnside - and then to the whole school!  The (extremely well-behaved) children were all in the Assembly Hall and Arthur briefly explained why we were there.  A group of four 10-year olds were then delegated to show us around the school and we were truly impressed with everything we saw.  It was indeed a pleasure to see such happy, contented children and to meet the dedicated staff - all so obviously proud of their school.

We ended up in the library where Mrs Hall showed us some of the books that had been donated as a result of her wide-spread appeal.  There were several from noted children's authors and even one from 10 Downing Street, signed by the Prime Minister.

All in all, it was a very pleasurable hour or so and it was a privilege for us to be of some help.

When we were shown into the Reception (or Foundation) Class, President Arthur spotted a book with a significant title - and insisted that Pauline took a photo:-

Thanks to Pauline Crow for this photo!
