David Green, Chapel Cottage Plants

Last Monday the 8th July the Rotary Club of March were given a presentation by David Green owner of a local little known business Chapel Cottage Plants Ltd situated at the Hook in Wimblington. David was introduced to the Club by Rtn. John Lattimore who had known him for many years but did not fully appreciate what he did.

David Green explained that together with his wife Ann they started trading in 1989, from their home at Chapel Cottage, he had previously spent 12 years with another local Hardy perennial grower, where he was nursery manager until the time of departure to set up his own business. The business was started with the intention of growing Hardy Perennials and selling in to local garden centres and retail outlets. An area of 1 acre was brought back from a tenant farmer, which he felt would be adequate to give them an income over a 1 year trading period. One small poly tunnel was erected on the land and 70,000 perennials were grown for the intended sales. After visiting  retail outlets in approx. 70-80 mile radius of the nursery strong sales had been made to a small number of outlets.
