A group of hardy Gala Rotarians planted fruit trees at Wooplaw Community Woodland recently. Apple, pear and plum trees were planted in the woods and the Rotarians were not defeated by a bit of snow. A lot of tree planting techniques were perfected by the end of the planting and hopefully their efforts will bear fruits in the years to come.

The Club decided to help after Bob Fleet, Chairman of Wooplaw Community Woodland was guest speaker at a meeting in November. The Club agreed to donate the cost of the trees and help with planting, not expecting the weather to be as severe as it was on the day! Gala Rotary and Wooplaw are very grateful to Cheviot Trees of Foulden in Berwickshire who supplied the trees, stakes and ties at a substantial discount.

Wooplaw has flourished as a community organisation for 25 yrs this year. It offers a lot but needs active interest and support. It is 55 acres, has four distinct areas, several buildings, ponds, a stream, paths, sculptures and a whole load of imagination. Find out more at: http://www.wooplaw.org.uk/
