Oct 2013 Walking Weekend - Derbyshire Peak District

Fri, Oct 18th 2013 at 9:00 am- Sun, Oct 20th 2013 - 6:00 pm

The popular annual Walking Weekend is arranged by the club for any interested members, partners and guests. For those who enjoy medium exercise in the open air this informal weekend is great fun.

Seven members signed up for this fun weekend this year. They stayed in Biggin Hall Hotel bed, breakfast and evening meal, and had 3 days of great exercise in lovely scenery, sampling local hostelries along the way. The pub next door was a welcoming sight at the end of the day.

Armed with maps and compasses the intrepid group set off each day with a picnic provided by the hotel to wander the hills and dales. The weather turned out to be kind and visibility across the wonderful views was generally very good and everyone made it home in one piece.

Day 1 - 6 miles walking up Dovedale and back, past Lovers Leap, the 12 Apostles and Pickering Tor.

Day 2 - 12 miles walking a loop from Biggin past Stanedge Grange, Hartington and Alstonfield.

Day 3 - 6 miles walking a loop from Curbar along Cubar Edge and White Edge.

Everyone agreed that the experience would definitely be one to repeat next year -  look out for the date in your diary!
