Investigating Wildlife Crime

A presentation by Duncan McNiven Senior investigations Officer with the Royal Society for the Pretection of Birds (RSPB.


On the 29th July the Rotary Club of March were given

 After being introduced to the Club by Rtn. Albert Horton Duncan explained how the RSPB Investigations team works with UK police forces and other agencies to help catch wildlife criminals, particularly involving bird of prey persecution, the illegal trapping and taking of birds, illegal trade and egg collecting and following cases through to enforcement action. Investigation staff are based at the UK headquarters, Scottish headquarters and the Northern England Regional Office.

Duncan described various case histories which included the lengths egg collectors will go to to illegally collect rare eggs through to the illegal persecution of raptors.

After answering several questions Duncan was thanked for his most enlightening presentation By Rtn. John Lattimore.
