Young Chef Competition 2013

December 17th saw our local round of the RIBI (Rotary in Great Britain & Ireland) Young Chef competition take place at Eggbuckland Community College.

This year's competition was the most hotly fought contest yet - with the heat of the kitchen (and competition) almost getting the better of some of the competitors.

Five budding young chefs (3 from Eggbuckland Community College and 2 from Devonport High School for Boys) had to produce a 3 course meal for 2 people on a limited budget.  As Masterchef of Great Britain and judge for the day, Peter Gorton remarked, it was interesting to see some of the young chefs really stretch themselves with some difficult and tricky culinary delights.

Despite some setbacks all five produced some truly mouth watering dishes

.

As with any competition though, there can be only one winner, and this year Peter thought that Oliver Rooke from DHS for Boys edged it, with Ryan Brown (also from DHS) coming second and Charlotte Davidson from Egbuckland coming third.

The Rotary Club of Plympton would like to thank Eggbuckland for once again hosting the event, Peter Gorton for being the judge and Sainsburys (Marsh Mills) for providing prizes for the three winners.

Oliver now goes on to the District round in February and Peter has offered him a day's "training" at his restaurant in Tavistock to help him prepare for this next stage of the competition.
