Ukraine Convoy Team receives RIBI International Service Recognition Award
District Governor Mark on behalf of RIBI President Nan McCreadie presented a well deserved RIBI International Service Recognition Award to the Ukraine Convoy Team
For more than a decade Rotarians from this District and District 1190, have been delivering truckloads of old, obsolete and unwanted hospital equipment together with basic materials for an orphanage, to Eastern Europe.
Loads consisting of beds to computers; x-ray machines to dressings; walking frames to mattresses; CT scanners to scalpels have all been gladly received by the medical professionals and the orphanage staff.
Assisted by various family members and supporters, and utilising their own tractor units and trailers, some 15 trips have now been undertaken. The equipment is helping to advance health care and enhance the Berezhny Orphanage in Uzhgorod, south west Ukraine.
Perhaps less well publicised, is the academic and practical assistance the convoy team give to professionals in order to help improve clinical knowledge and outcomes. Much practical work has been undertaken at the orphanage. Hospital training remains ongoing and the team has also recently commenced an educational exchange.
Members of the Holmfirth, Birstall Luddites, Ossett and Bassenthwaite clubs together with many others have been involved over the years.
These Rotarians and their friends genuinely care to make a difference.
Accordingly, it is my pleasure to ask District Governor Mark on behalf of RIBI President Nan McCreadie to present this well deserved RIBI International Service Recognition Award to PDG Keith Davison on behalf the whole Ukraine Convoy Team.
