7.15 for 7.30pm Speaker and dinner at the Baron

Wed, Apr 22nd 2015 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

Tonight we welcomed Sarah and Mike Hagen from Classrooms in the Clouds to speak to us about one of our favourite charities.....

After a very tasty meal, some friendly banter and a bit of business we settled down to hear the latest news from "Classrooms in the Clouds", a charity helping local communities in remote areas of Nepal to build classrooms and schools to educate their children.

Many children do not go to school as they are needed to help their families survive on subsidance wages. Having a school within walking distance gives them more chance of being able to learn as well as helping at home. "Classrooms"  supports these communities both financially and with expertise to encourage the local community to build these schools themselves - this encourages independence and community ownership.

"Classrooms" also subsidises teachers salaries, especially in schools where more teachers are needed. The Government will only pay for 75% of the teachers needed to provide a good education for all pupils....

You can read more at http://www.classroomsintheclouds.org/ and many thanks to Sarah and Mike, along with guests from Kaboodle in Ludlow Shayne and Hazel Adams, for coming along and we hope you had a nice evening.
