Martin Wells. Upwell Gilbert and Sullivan Society.

Monday 12th January 2015, and first meeting of the year for The Rotary Club of March, got away to a fine start.

Members and Guests were welcomed by President Godfrey Smith, who thanked everyone for their contributions in fund raising the previous year, and set out his plans for the year ahead.

It was a chance for old and new friends to reminisce over the Festive Season, while enjoying a meal. After a few parish notices, our welcome, and eagerly awaited Guest Speaker took the floor. Introduced by Robert Freeman, Martin Wells, the Assistant Musical Director for Upwell G & S Society.

With the aid of a keyboard, Martin gave us a potted, but none the less entertaining resume on the lives of W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. With selection for some of the popular comic songs, members became the chorus for Modern Major Generals and Articled Clerks in Solicitor Firms, to mention but a few. Feet were tapping and hands waving in time the melodic music. Martin concluded a highly recommended hours informative fun, with details on this years production, Ruddigore, or The Witchs Curse, being performed on 23, 24.and 25th April at Outwell. For only 7.00 admission a splendid time is guaranteed for all. See website for details.

A most fitting vote of thanks was delivered by George White, to the approbation of the assembled audience.
