The Gordon Easton Collection. Monday 22nd June 2015. A draught of Eels, a Dalek, and a traction engine called Dragon, all of these sit cheek by jowl in a unique collection at Coates, 6 miles from March. Name an object, will there will be one? No, not one, or two or 3, or 4, but perhaps forty, each slightly different. From tin openers to tractors, fairground fun to firearms. This is the scope of this unique collection. Motor cycles, Cars, Lorries, Industrial engines. Machines powered by steam, fuel, Horse or Human, Wagons, Gypsy caravans, cycles, in fact, anything that was moved by energy in all its forms. The Rotary Club of March paid a visit on Monday evening, 22nd June, and spent 2 enchanted hours of nostalgia. The universal comment was ‘We had one of those when I was child’. The primary basis of the collection is agricultural vehicles and equipment, tractors, tillers, tools. A fine representation of diversity spanning two centuries. President Godfrey Smith gave a vote of thanks in what was his last official function during his term of office. Visiting by societies is by appointment only; the cost is £5.00 donation. Monies this year are going to Coates Brownies and Beaver Groups.
