Oct 2014 Walking Weekend - Open to all Members & Guests

Fri, Oct 10th 2014 at 9:00 am- Sun, Oct 12th 2014 - 6:00 pm

3days and 2 nights away in the Shrewsbury area.

This year a group of eight intrepid walkers went up to Shrewsbury, Shropshire to walk over 3 days in the surrounding countryside, staying in the town centre (we were pleased to include Martin - a club member in the past).  Walks were organised in line with the tastes of the group.  Anyone just wanting to wander around attractive Shrewsbury town was welcome.  There are a wide variety of cafe's, tea rooms, restaurants and pubs to explore for meals and refreshments generally.  It has a well preserved medieval town centre built in the meander of the river - with a castle, abbey, picturesque back streets and it was the birth place of Darwin amongst other things.

Friday - Day 1 - car sharing into the area then an afternoon walk up the Wrekin - only to find Rotary at the top!

Saturday - Day 2 - after a great breakfast off on a long walk - Stiperstones - with a refreshment stop at the Bog Visitors Centre.

Sunday - Day 3 - a morning stroll along the riverside walk - past St Chad's Church and Percy Throwers House and gardens - before heading home mid afternoon tired but full of tales of a great time!
