Area 1 Claire Waldie


Area 2 Tony Williams
Tony joined the Rotary Club of Redruth in 1996 and has served as President for the Club twice in 2005/06 and 2013/14. This is his third year as AG and looks forward to supporting his clubs and DG within district 1175.

in 2005, he became a volinteer speaker for Shelterbox and in 2010 became a response team member, now having had 5 deployments to various disasters around the world supporting shelterbox and Rotary throughout the world. .

Area 3 Pete Williams

Born in the village of Polruan in 1958, and attended the village County Primary School. Then on to Fowey Comprehensive School, crossing the Fowey harbour daily in all weathers! Pete's career was Firefighting with Cornwall Fire Brigade in 1977 serving his County for 36 years. This was possibly what inspired him to community work. Pete joined the Rotary Club of Bodmin in 2011, was President in 2016-17, and continues to be an active member working and serving his community. As the "New Boy" on District, he looks forward to working alongside seasoned members of the District 1175. 

Area 4 Wally Lake


Area 5 William Wills
Born in Torbay in 1962,William spent most of his life in Devon. His first involvement with the family of Rotary was in 1997 through his wife Sue who is a founder member of Plymouth Mayflower Rotary Club.  He subsequently joined the same club in August 2003 and is the President in 2014-15.  He has recently returned from a visit to their twin club in Plymouth Massachusetts. William’s prime interest is to ensure that Rotary is fun, whilst enjoying fellowship and the good work that we undertake in the community.

A Chartered Accountant by profession, having trained with Ernst & Whinney in Exeter, William later set up his own practice from which he has recently retired, but he still undertakes a number of consultancy projects and non executive roles.

Area 6 John Page

After school and University, and a year in Pakistan studying village life, John had a career in Commercial Banking. He moved to Paignton in Nov. 2009, joining Rotary in April 2010, becoming RC Paignton’s President in July 2013.

On completion of that role, he was asked to become the Assistant District Treasurer, before transferring that role to District 1175, and continuing to the current day.

The unexpected resignation of the Asst. Governor for Area 6 resulted in John taking on this role as well which he started in April, 2016. He has now been asked to be one of District Foundation Grant approval Team as well.

He has a keen interest in the End Polio Now programme. He will also be RC Paignton’s Organiser for the twinning visits of RCs. Paignton and Dokkum (Holland) which have been twinned for some 50 years.

Area 7 David Pritchard
David’s career was in banking for 35 years until taking early retirement and moving back to Torquay but in 1998 his wife found a job for him as a Company Treasurer where he still works part-time each week. His other interests are The National Trust (Involved with the local centre) Royal British Legion Torquay Branch where he also has an involvement. He has a keen interest in gardens both formal and his own.

David is a member of the Rotary Club of Torquay which he joined 16 years ago. He was involved with District 1170 on the Youth Committee in its various guises and was District Chairman of that committee for two years. David is a member of the District Training Committee and has been an Assistant Governor in District 1170 for 4 years.

Area 8 Sue Bury

Born in Dublin, brought up in Sussex, Sue spent most of her working life in education in Bath (but not teaching!), moving to Devon in 2002. She has three adult children and five grandchildren, and enjoys long-haul travel and says highlights of her travels were visiting Australia several times where her son lived for some years, backpacking for five weeks around New Zealand, climbing Kilimanjaro, and being lucky enough to go to Antarctica - not all in the same year!  Now she plays golf, gardens, attends the WI and edits the monthly village magazine - and still travels. 

Sue became a Rotarian at Exeter Southernhay RC in July 2009 quite by chance after being introduced by a friend. She has since chaired the Com Voc, Youth Services and Membership Committees and was President in 2015/16. 

Area 9 John Thorogood


Area 10 Diane Shepherd

Diane qualified as a social worker and served 27 years in the Probation Service with her last post held Chief Probation Officer for Devon. She then spent ten years working with Exeter Hospiscare organising their complementary therapy and carers support. Diane is a Complementary Therapist in Reflexology, Massage, Reiki, Aromatherapy and Indian Head Massage and has taught Yoga and Tai Chi for 43 years. She is currently a volunteer  for Marie Cure, National Trust and the National Coast Watch.  Happily married and a mother of four, she enjoys keeping fit, running, walking, cycling and bell ringing. A Rotarian since 1997, Diane has been Secretary, Treasurer, President, District Chair Community Service and  District Chair Membership. 

Area 11 Michael Champion

Michael has been a member of Bideford Bridge Rotary for over 20 years, he has served on the District Foundation Committee, led two teams on the Group Study Exchange programme to Brasil, and separately two trips to Brasil to lead humanitarian projects after being invited to return. One was in the South of Brasil in Parana State where he worked with recovering drug users and the other was in Alto Paradiso near Brasilia where he spent a Christmas and new year assisting street children. He received a R.I. Presidential citation for this work. He is a PHF and Past President of his Club.  

Area 12 Roger Byrom

Born in Andover, Roger moved with his family to Braunton at the age of 5, where he has spent most of his adult life. He joined Braunton Rotary in 2009 and became a founder member of Braunton Caen Rotary in 2010, becoming President in 2016-17 and Assistant Governor in 2017. He has a keen interest in the eradication of polio worldwide and as well as fund raising locally, plans to return to Bhiwadi in India to take part in his third National Immunisation programme next year.

A wood machinist by trade, he has been a Funeral Director for the past 20 years and still owns and runs funeral homes in Braunton and Torrington. Roger has a long history in scouting and was involved in 37 local Gang Show performances in North Devon. He also has an interest in renovating classic cars, DIY and gardening.
