The education programmes run by Foundation are all 'education plus.'  They provide educational opportunities and build bridges between continents and cultures.  They had their origins in the world-wide movement to establish a new peace throughout the world following the Second World War.  They have as much relevance today because of the way they enable young people to engage in the communities where they study.

This is achieved by building on Rotary's unique network of 32,000 clubs in all parts of the world. Every person who participates in a Foundation supported education programme is drawn into the community that they are visiting by connecting them to 'host' Rotary Clubs.  They are able to gain an understanding of the communities that they visit from the inside, rather than as visitors on the outside.

There are four programmes:

• Global Grant Scholarships
• Scholarships funded by Districts from their District Grant

Global Grant Scholarships

In District 1010 we have decided to use Global Grants to sponsor students from the developing world to study at Scottish universities. Global grant scholarships must be for a programme of study at postgraduate level within at least one of the Areas of Focus. We can offer at least $30,000 for a scholarship, making it an attractive prospect for both the student and the university.

World Peace Fellowships

Rotary World Peace Fellows are leaders promoting national and international cooperation, peace, and the successful resolution of conflict throughout their lives, in their careers, and through service activities. Fellows can earn either a masters degree in international relations, public administration, sustainable development, peace studies, conflict resolution, or a related field, or a professional development certificate in peace and conflict resolution.

Each year, up to 110 Rotary World Peace Fellowships (60 masters degree fellowships and 50 professional development certificate fellowships) are offered on a competitive basis at five Rotary centres which operate in partnership with five leading universities (centres offer masters degree unless noted otherwise).  The Peace Fellowshiops take around 18 months to complete, including a field study period.  The professional development certificates are awarded following shorter, four month, course available at the University of Chulalongkorn, Cambodia.

Fellows are chosen from countries and cultures around the globe based on their ability to have a significant, positive impact on world peace and conflict resolution during their careers.
