The latest update on the situation in Vanuatu as provided to us by our Rotary District Secretary....


VANUATU UPDATE
During the past week the situation in Vanuatu has changes considerably. Shelterbox have been told tents are not required only shelter kits, which are being provided from within the local region.

Aquabox Australia has sent boxes and has been told no more are required at present. While Aquabox UK and World Water Works have offered help the cost of flying good the 9000 miles to the South Pacific is in some cases, more than the value of the aid. It is therefore more practical to send by sea which will take between 30 and 40 days, although confirmation of the need for these has not yet been confirmed, some shipments are to be made shortly and more requests are anticipated. It would also seem that there is a huge amount of aid available in the immediate area through the generosity of many organisations and individuals.

Lifestraw through their American hub have secured free transport for Relief workers via US military and have already received $20,000 donation and are shipping the supplies to their Australian hub where arrangements have been made to deliver the community models free of charge and directly to Vanuatu and its islands.

Rotary New Zealand World Community Service (RNWCS) is working hard to deliver both short and long term help to the islands. Their objectives state:
