Burns Night

Burns Night 25th January 2015 The swirl of the kilt and lilt of the pipes, set the tone for the Rotary Club of March’s Burns Night Celebration upon Monday 25th January 2016. Some 90 Members and guests from across the Fens, Spalding to Chatteris and all points in between enjoyed a superb evening of traditional festive fair, and a good helping of ‘Wee Rabbie’s’ poetry. The recitations, and vocal ability to master the broad dialect, added much good hearted humour. The addition of Piper, Kathryn Johnstone from the Peterborough Pipe Band, renditions of traditional Scottish airs, with the Haggis being addressed by Alistair Hopkins, former Beadle in Wisbech transported us briefly over the border. A Dram preceded the Haggis, with the Selkirk Grace delivered Nick Kime. Past President Godfrey Smith address the Lassies, whose response was graciously delivered by Lesley Bishop. The meal closed with the desert, Cranachan, difficult to say, but a joy to eat. Humorous recitations were attempted by brave Rotarians, and the very fine evening closed with a universal rendition of Auld Lang Syne. Robert Freeman Press Officer. R.C.M..
