The new DG takes over


The District 1020 Governor’s Handover dinner was held in the Park Hotel on Friday 26th June, and was attended by 190 Rotarians and partners. The evening began with a pre Dinner Drinks Reception, hosted and sponsored by Falkirk District Council. DG Elect Andy introduced the Speaker for the evening, Ian Scott. Ian is an Honorary Member of Polmont Rotary Club. and well known in the Falkirk area as Chair of Falkirk Community Trust, as well as a local historian. Ian gave a humorous look at the History of Falkirk from the Antonine Wall to the Kelpies.

Provost Pat Reid welcomed all the Rotarians and partners to Falkirk District and mentioned how proud Falkirk was to have Andy as District 1020 Governor, making this the third time that Falkirk district has had this honour.

Outgoing DG Alistair took over the proceedings at this point and in a speech that touched on the achievements and activities of the past year, he took time to thank his District Team, and all the clubs that he visited and supported in their many and varied activities. Alistair then took the opportunity to makes some presentations, firstly to Past District Governor Ian Rule of the Falkirk Club, who received the Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service. Presentations were then made to a number of clubs that have a Rota Kids club, that have done excellent work for Rotary. This was followed by District Governor’s citations at Gold and Silver level to a number of clubs.

Alistair then invited Andy to come forward to receive the Chain of Office for District 1020. Andy took the opportunity to present Alistair with Rotary Regalia and a gift to commemorate his successful year in office. Andy then spoke of his hopes and aspirations for the coming year, and related how he had learned so much from his late Father.  Andy also outlined the support and encouragement received from his mother, family and his wife Jacquie. Andy’s mum, who was present, received a basket of flowers from Nancy Rule. At this point Andy presented Olive Geddes, District Governor Elect and Lindsay Craig, District Governor Nominee, with their Chains of Office for the coming year. This was followed by the presentation of Badges of Office to his District Team. In closing Andy thanked the Hotel and Staff for an excellent evening and to everyone for coming along and making the evening a success. Andy then proposed the Final Toast - Rotary International.
