Rotary Club of West Fife – Club Assembly - Tuesday 16th June 2015
Community & Vocational Service Committee Report
President Elect Alex your Community & Vocational Service Committee comprises:- myself, Ewan Archibald, Ian Borland, Fraser Greenwood, Robin Park, Roger Templeton, Barry Walters, Peter Bell and Andrew Gillies.
There are a number of projects which we shall continue with in the coming year, for example, the Trussell Trust Food Bank and Kids Out to name but two.
However we shall consider in committee whether we should continue with some others such as, Shoe Boxes or whether to hold a Stroke awareness event.
I believe however we should continue our contact with Woodmill High School and their Prize Giving evening where we fund the Seniors Award, although this may be better allocated to our Youth Service Committee to oversee.
We will, with the valued help from Alan also continue to support our Fife Young Carers through the Association of Fife Rotary Clubs and in a similarly way, Disability Sport Fife.
Fife Festival of Music is also a project we have supported in previous years and I see no reason to change this.
However in the coming Rotary year we must concentrate on more local West Fife events. Our recent participation at the Crossford and Cairneyhill gala days are a good example of what we need to do. In the same way we should become involved and participate in the Remembrance Day Services which take place through-out local villages in November and we should arrange to lay wreaths on behalf of our club at the war memorials.
A major project we will be pursuing this year is Mock Interviews.
We are planning, in partnership with Fife College to hold a series of “Mock Interviews” for candidates attending employability training courses run by Fife College in Dunfermline. The candidates have already been through a selection process conducted by the staff of Fife College to determine each person’s suitability for a placement on the employability training courses. The mock interviews are to be conducted in a professional manner and we believe the most effective way to facilitate this is in conjunction with local businesses and so would ask participating companies for help by:-
Creating a “Mock Job” description.
Provide someone to attend the mock interviews along with a West Fife Rotarian.
Attend a debriefing event at Keavil House Hotel as guests of our club.
We look forward to the year ahead and seek the support of all members for these projects and others which may come forward from the discussion of this committee.
