Many of our members will know Linda Butler as IPP of The Rotary Club of Oswestry Borderland. Today, however, Linda will tell us about her time working with the charity Mercy Ships in 2009 and 2011 when she travelled to Benin and then Sierra Leone in West Africa to join the hospital ship "The Africa Mercy".
Staffed totally by volunteers providing surgical and medical care for the people of the country during its 10 month stay, the ship docked in the ports of Contonu in Benin and Freetown in Sierra Leone, the countries' capital cities, allowing several hundred adults and children to receive the same kind of hospital care that is standard in the UK.
