Rotary's World Polio Day February 23rd

We will be raising money for the End Polio Now programme which has reduced polio incidence from 148 cases last year to 37 this year.

End Polio Now website. As of October 2015 there have been no cases in Africa for over 12 months and: 

Wild Polio Virus - 1:     51 cases since 1st January 2015  vs 242 cases at the same time last year.   38 of these cases were in Pakistan vs 205 cases, and 13 cases in Afghanistan vs 12 cases at the same time last year.


Wild Polio Virus - 3:     No cases since November 2012

Vaccine Derived Polio Virus - 1:   12 cases this year,  9 in Madagascar, 2 in the Ukraine and 1 case in Laos  vs 1 case in 2014.

Vaccine Derived Polio Virus - 3:     2 cases this year 1 in Guinea and 1 in Nigeria vs 53 cases in 2014.

23rd October is World Polio Day.  Please wear a crocus on Friday to show your support for the fight against polio.
