Normanton Rotarian receives CBE

In the Queen"™s Birthday Honours List, Rotarian, Derek Searby TD, Normanton Rotary's "President-Elect" was awarded a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire).

The citation read…”For services to the Administration of Justice and the Tribunals Judiciary”.

Invariably there is a delay before the honour is officially bestowed and on this occasion, Derek’s investiture and CBE decoration was performed by His Royal Highness the Duke of Cambridge, affectionately known as Prince William,  at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday the 17th November 2015.

Derek, who retired relatively recently, had been a judge for thirty-five years. The last five years being a member of the Judges Council for England and Wales and one of its representatives to the European Judiciary, which provided reports aimed at setting minimum standards for the judiciary throughout Europe.


Derek has been a long-standing member of our Rotary Club and he was a Major in the Wakefield TA (Territorial Army).

 We sincerely congratulate Derek on becoming a CBE.
