Rossendale Rotary Round the Hills Walk 2021

Sun, Sep 5th 2021 at 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

The annual Rossendale Round the Hills Walk takes place on the first Sunday in September each year, being an 18 mile walk through the hills and valleys of Rossendale.

Sunday, the 5th of September 2021 will be the date for the 53rd Rossendale Round the Hills Walk, which is a FREE to enter opportunity to see the Rossendale Valley in all its glory! The full walk is 18 miles with the option of an alternative finish, reducing the distance to 15 miles.

Starting and ending at Marl Pits, Newchurch Rd, Rawtenstall, the walk is fully mapped and comprehensive, printed instructions are issued at check-in. Whilst it is free to enter, there is the opportunity to give generously to Rotary supported charities, via collection buckets, either when starting or finishing; so, it is an opportunity not only to see and learn something new about our area but to also make a difference to those who need some help. On completion a complimentary, signed certificate will be presented to each walker.

The Walk was started in 1966, organised initially by Rawtenstall Sports Federation; over the years the route has evolved and we believe that it now gives the best views of the Valley and its various landscapes. Rotary has been involved in the Walk from its early days and took over the organisation, together with Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team, who are on hand throughout the day to attend to any emergencies, in 2005.

The Walk has only been cancelled 3 times since its inception, in 2020 because of COVID restrictions, previously with the foot and mouth epidemic and just once through dreadful weather. In 2017, the occasion of the 50th Walk, the route was revamped, new instructions issued and an excellent hand painted, informative map produced.

We will be delighted to welcome walkers back this year after the enforced break and we anticipate a record attendance. Details of how to register etc will soon be available via face book (Rossendale Round the Hills Walk) and/or the Rotary Club of Rossendale website.

So, round up your family and friends, dubbin your boots and get ready to enjoy a terrific day out!
