Dementia Friendly Awareness

We all have contacts, both in business and social lives, let's use them to be the interface between the Dementia Friendly Community Co-ordinators and local business

Creating awareness of Dementia Friendly Communities, with the aim of making all Southern Wales Rotarians Dementia Friendly is a service and networking project.

The project is to allow people in early stages of dementia to have the confisdence  to be able to remain independant in their own community.

The Welsh Government has funded Co-ordinators in our District, but before they can start work in an area, they must receive permission from the Mayor of Leader of the Council.  Once agreed, the process is to set up a steering group of health service roviders, emergency services, local business leaders and Rotary Clubs, with their networks of business and professional people.  The aim is that all customer facing staff will be given, free of charge, a 45 minutes Dementia session, which will give them a better understanding and awareness of what the person with dementia faces. There are several dementia friendly Communities in the Vale of Glamorgan but there was no co-ordination between them of the resources available to those touched by dementia. Cowbridge Rotary undertook to produce, in co-ordination with Marie Curie, the construction of a website full of relevant information. you can see the website here.
