Dementia Friendly Awareness

We all have contacts, both in business and social lives, let's use them to be the interface between the Dementia Friendly Community Co-ordinators and local business

During the 2017/18 Rotary Year, the then District Governor - Rtn Maggie Hughes.  Now continued into 2018/2019 by the current DG Clive Edwards - project to create awareness of Dementia Friendly Communities, with the aim of making all Southern Wales Rotarians Dementia Friendly by the end.  It is to be seen as a service and networking project.

The project is to allow people in early stages of dementia to have the confisdence  to be able to remain independant in their own community.

The Welsh Government has funded Co-ordinators in our District, but before they can start work in an area, they must receive permission from the Maoyor of Leader of the Concil.  Once agreed, the process is to set up a steering group of health service roviders, emergency services, local business leaders and Rotary Clubs, with their networks of business and professional people.  The aim is that all customer facing staff will be given, free of charge, a 45 minutes Dementia session, which will give them a better understanding and awareness of what the person with dementia faces.
