Lunchtime Meeting - 12.45pm - Speaker Rachel Wintle from the Alzheimer's Society

Mon, Mar 13th 2017 at 12:30 pm- Mon, Feb 13th 2017 - 2:00 pm

John Cleaver's speaker today will be Rachel Wintle Dementia Support Manager at the Alzheimer's Society

The Alzheimer’s Society is the leading dementia support and research charity, here for anyone affected by any form of dementia. We offer a wide range of support services for people affected by dementia; we provide advice and information regarding dementia, including our national Helpline and online forum; we campaign on behalf of people living with dementia; and we fund research into the cause, cure, care and prevention of dementia in all its forms.  To reduce the stigma and raise awareness of dementia we take the lead on the Dementia Friends initiative and support the development of dementia friendly communities.

We would be delighted to talk to Rotary Clubs in District 1180 regarding the work of Alzheimer’s Society, particularly our local work, which I am sure will be of interest to Rotary members who have personal experience of dementia.

We can offer opportunities to share the experience and skills of Rotarians to the benefit of local communities and Alzheimer’s Society, through volunteering, raising awareness, becoming Dementia Friends and working towards communities becoming Dementia Friendly. These roles do not necessarily take up a lot of time and can be as complex or easy as people want.

The support of Rotary could help us reach out to so many more people affected by dementia and increase awareness and an understanding of living with dementia
