Lunchtime Meeting - 12.45pm - Handover

Retired Physics and Maths teacher, David Davies, is the new and 88th President of the Rotary Club of Oswestry taking over from last year's President, Ian Haigh, at the Club's annual handover meeting today.

Known as Daitwice to his friends, David was born and grew up in South Wales, leaving Barry to study Electronic Engineering and gain a PGCE at Bangor University followed by an MA in Educational Studies at York.

After marrying Kate in 1970, the couple moved to London where Dave was to spend his teaching career in a number of schools around the capital.  Looking for an area for their retirement, the couple spent a cold and wet February weekend in Oswestry where they felt completely at home, buying a house where they eventually retired in 2007.

Unfortunately Dave's plans changed when Kate died in 2010 and although he continues their plans to travel, which they had started together, he is now kept busy with their two children and six grandchildren, his involvement with Oswestry's Town Twinning Association, Walking for Health and both the town and county management of St John Ambulance, oh, and Rotary!

Dave joined Oswestry Rotary Club in 2010 and has been a committed member of the Club ever since bringing his valuable experience to roles on the Youth Services Committee and as Treasurer over the past few years.  Thanking Past President Ian for a successful 2016-17, Dave is now looking forward to the next 12 months. "We are such a busy Club; I look forward to continuing our projects in the Community and with our local schools and, of course, working with all our busy members!"
