Developing Young Leaders
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA)
RYLA courses are run all over the world for young people with leadership potential.
Each year since 2001, Rotary Clubs within Rotary South East have offered young people the opportunity to participate in a unique experience.
Aim of RYLA
To encourage the development of teamwork and leadership skills in young people who have the potential to become leaders in future.
The RYLA course utilises both indoor and outdoor tasks designed to build individual self-confidence and the development of leadership skills.
Individual learning takes place through active involvement, and the receipt of feedback on both individual and team performance.
The course is run as a residential weekend.
Who is Eligible to Attend?
The success of the course depends on there being a good mix of young people of different ages (between 14 and almost 18) with various backgrounds and experience; all with leadership potential.
The course is also designed to develop the latent talents of anyone held back by lack of confidence. Candidates must be prepared to contribute to as well as benefit from the course and preference will be given to those who would not otherwise get the opportunity to take part in such an award scheme.
Two RYLA events take place each year in April and October. These are held at:
All costs are met by the sponsoring Rotary Clubs, excluding travel expenses, but often the sponsoring club will arrange this for you.
What to Take
There is a suggested RYLA kit list for the weekend, but Bowles can provide wet weather gear if required.
RYLA Course date 2017
The next residential weekend will be from Friday 13th October to Sunday 15th October 2017
