HEADTEACHER chew valley school

Travelling to Kenya this Summer and setting up links with schools there to the schools in  the Chew Valley.

Following Mark Mallett’s announcement of his impending retirement, the governing body has acted swiftly to secure a new headteacher for the school who will take up the appointment in September 2016.

The governors were delighted by the response to their advertisement which produced a substantial field of high calibre applications from the UK, Hong Kong and New Zealand.  Having drawn up an excellent short-list of six candidates, a three day process ensured that candidates were interviewed by teaching and support-staff and the student body as well as school leaders, Local Authority advisors and the governors themselves.  It was an exhaustive process which certainly verified the candidates’ stamina as well as their calibre!

It is with great pleasure we can announce that Gareth Beynon, currently Head of School at the Clevedon Multi-Academy Trust, will be our new headteacher from next September.  Mr Beynon is a Geography graduate of the University of Manchester with an MA in Educational Management and Administration from the London University Institute of Education.  He has taught in Dorking and Guildford in Surrey, securing rapid promotion, before moving to take up leadership positions at Clevedon School which secured an Outstanding Ofsted report in October 2011.  Formerly a keen rugby player, he now watches from the touchline!  He is married with one daughter.

One of the great advantages of the appointment is the proximity of Mr Beynon’s current post to Chew Valley School.  Mr Mallett is delighted that this will afford them both the opportunity to ensure a smooth and seamless succession which will ensure staff, student and parent confidence as the school embarks on this next chapter of its history.
