Global Grant Rotary Scholars 2016-17

This year we are hosting nine Global Grant Scholars who are happy to come speak to your club.

The nine scholars being hosted by District 1260 have paid several visits to Rotary Clubs and have created considerable interest with their interesting and stimulating presentations. Their enthusiasm and commitment has been reflected by the consistent feedback from club members. The group of students which we have ‘inherited’ from London D1130 are a real credit to the Rotary organisation, and they truly are ambassadors.

Some have become involved within their sponsor clubs, and one scholar – Jourdan McGinn (being hosted by Neil Beeton/ RC of Newport Pagnell)  – was instrumental in organising the planting of 500 Polio Crocus bulbs  – supplied courtesy of DG Chalmers -  within the grounds of her university, London School of Medicine and Tropical Hygiene.

Clubs which scholars have visited – or are booked to visit – include: Baldock, Hatfield, Newport Pagnell, the four Luton Clubs, Biggleswade, Ware, Winslow, Letchworth GC, Milton Keynes Grand Union, Aylesbury, Hemel Hempstead, Amersham, Dunstable, Bedford Castle, Hitchin Tilehouse, Stevenage Grange, Amwell, Berkhamsted, Luton Someries and Harpenden Village.

Five of the scholars Crystal Nwosu (Baldock), Wyatt Hoffman (Hemel Hempstead), Jordan Delorenzo (Hatfield), Brenna McCallick (Luton Someries), and Chelsea Phipps (Winslow) attended the District Council meeting at Tilsworth on Saturday, 12th. November, and were very well received.

A vote at the District Council meeting for finance to enable all nine scholars to attend the D1260 Conference at Bristol in May, 2017, was passed unanimously, and if you want to have the pleasure of meeting all of the scholars together, then now is the time to get booking for the District Conference at Bristol (19th. To 21st. May) when they will all be there.

Every club in the District, all AG’s and many other appropriate Rotarians have been circulated with details of all of the scholars’ bios and photos. Information is on the District website, Twitter and Facebook – courtesy of George Wallace. In conclusion once again can I reiterate and encourage all the D1260 Rotary Clubs to invite the scholars to give a presentation to their Clubs. They are all amazing and very friendly and articulate Global Grant Scholars – and they are free and available to speak.

My thanks to those who have – and are – giving their support to the Global Grant Scholars programme.
