Polio awareness stall at the Knighton Community Market

This was a successful event, concentrating more on awareness than fundraising but people were quite generous when encouraged by free "Purple for Polio" cupcakes made by Rotarian Angela Ellis. Below is the article sent to the local press - you can read more about World Polio Day HERE.......

On Saturday October 28^th members of the Knighton and District Rotary Club adorned Knighton's Brookside Square and the Knighton Community Market with purple balloons to support World Polio Day. Purple is the colour that is used to indicate that children across the world have been vaccinated for polio hence the slogan “Purple for polio” Rotary members across the country have been raising awareness, and raising money, to finally eradicate polio for good. Only two countries have had cases of polio in the past 12 months and with everyone's support this debilitating disease can be removed from the world completely. Rotary Club Community Chair Nick Stimpson said today “The Gates Foundation is donating $2 for every $1 raised by Rotary members and we are grateful to the people in Knighton, encouraged by “purple for polio” cupcakes made by Rotary member Angela Ellis, who have helped us raise over $120 for this polio eradication push.” You can find out more about what projects Rotary is involved in by searching for "Knighton Rotary"
