In association with the Manchester International Society, the Foundation and International Committee implemented the “RocketWorld” project at All Saints CE Primary School in Heaton Norris on Tuesday 7 November 2017.
The “RocketWorld” project is an intercultural learning adventure for 7-11 year olds. It aims to enrich the curriculum of primary school children, broaden their horizons and encourage language learning.
Volunteers from ten countries, who are students at local universities, used their laptops, artefacts and their nations’ flags to explain to the children the geography, the customs and the culture of their countries. A giant inflatable Earth with NASA satellite imagery was exhibited in the school hall. Children were very enthusiastic to learn and participated in several activities.
Joan Ebbrell worked with the volunteers and the children, and stayed at the school for the duration of the event. Najib Yousif and John Palmer made a brief visit and talked with the children, the volunteers, the teachers and the headteacher (Mr Jon Roper). The school was very pleased with the project. The headteacher thanked the Rotary Club of Stockport Lamplighter for financing the project.
