The technology tournaments are events that test the knowledge, ingenuity, innovation, application and manual skills of the team members and their ability to work as a team.
There are three age groups:
- Foundation 7 to 10 years old
- Intermediate 11 to 13 years old
- Advanced 14 to 17 years old
What is involved in a Technology Tournament?
The team consists of four students with an interest in engineering, design, technology and science.
The team is required to solve a design and technology based task about which they know nothing until the day of the event.
Each team is required to design, develop, build and then test their solution to the task from the materials supplied.
The team needs to have good communication skills be well organized and able to show the stages of development of their task solution in a design portfolio.
The day culminates in a testing session when teams demonstrate their best solution to the task and can also observe the efforts of competing teams.
Technology Tournaments are usually held from February through until October – some chose to organise a tournament during Science week. A pack of instructions for running the event is prepared annually by Rotary GB&I.
