Baldock's Oldest Rotarian Bert Biggs. RIP

Baldock Rotary is sad to announce the recent death of the club's oldest and longest serving Rotarian, AW 'Bert' Biggs, at the age of 93.

Bert joined The Rotary Club of Baldock in 1965 and he had the distinction of being President on two occasions; firstly in 1974-1975 and again in 1996-1997. His second term of office came after having left the club in 1983 and re-joining on 1st July 1990. During his absence of those seven years, which was occasioned by a move of his job location, he became a founder member of Hitchin Priory Club where he is still held in high regard.

In his many years of Rotary service, Bert was an enthusiastic and hard working Rotarian, holding most offices in the club at one time or another, created strong and enduring links with Toftlund Rotary (Baldock's twin club in Denmark) and was always a stalwart supporter of the club's activities.

In 2014, in recognition of his outstanding service, the club awarded Bert a Sapphire to his existing Paul Harris Fellowship and, a year later, on his 50th Rotary Anniversary, he received recognition of his long service with a certificate from Rotary GB&I.  In 2017 the club conferred Honorary Membership on him.

Bert will be missed by everyone and the Baldock Rotarians send condolences to Phyll Biggs and to all of Bert's family.
