New President goes for a Walk!

Andy Calvert will be walking the 114 miles of the Icknield Way, each miles signifies a year that Rotary has been in existence.

The hand over for the New President of Luton Someries Rotary Club took place on Friday 29th July. Andy Calvert joined Rotary just over 3 years ago, he is also the Equality and Diversity Officer of the Rotary District 1260 covering Beds, Bucks and Herts.

Outside of Rotary Andy is the Executive Manager of a local charity that supports young people - Tokko Youth Space who celebrated their 5th Anniversary on Wednesday 27th July 2018.

As part of his presidential year at Luton Someries Rotary Club, Andy has taken on the challenge to embark on a charitable walk in July along the ‘The Icknield Way’, covering the areas from Dunstable to Thetford at a distance of 114 miles. Rotary is one of the oldest charities in the United Kingdom (114 years old) the road that Andy will be walking through is the oldest in the UK, every mile is dedicated to the years Rotary has been actively supporting our community.

Andy will be doing this challenge on his own which will last between 7-8 days. A 114 mile walk can be daunting for anyone, however, anyone that knows Andy knows his love for conversation. The challenge for Andy won’t be a physical one, but a verbal one as he will be doing this on his own. We are currently calling for support from the local community to help sponsor Andy on this challenge and allow his colleagues some peace and quiet for a few days! All funds raised will be donated between Rotary and TOKKO Youth Space both local charities close to his heart.

If you are able to support his quest please contact him at andy.calvert@tokko.co.uk or you can sponsor him here:-  https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Theandycalvert
