Chance to Shine Schools
Chance to Shine works in state schools to provide children with a positive experience of cricke.
We work with the 39 county cricket boards across England and Wales to send specialist coaches into primary schools, once a week for six weeks, to deliver coaching, competition and 'MCC Spirit of Cricket' assemblies.
As well as the physical benefits of regular activity, we use cricket to teach key life skills that will help them beyond the playground. Skills like communication, leadership, resilience and respect.
Cricket is an inclusive sport, where girls and boys from different backgrounds can play and learn together. We are helping to normalise female participation in cricket and nearly half of the children involved in Chance to Shine each year are girls (48%).
We provide training for primary school teachers so they can deliver cricket to students after our coaches have left. Our free digital resources are enriching the experience for teachers and support the sustainability of cricket in the primary schools.
Providing the competitive opportunities for young people remains central to Chance to Shine. The 'Chance to Compete' tournament is the cornerstone of our work in secondary schools and continues to be a powerful way for engaging teenagers in cricket.
We also fund a weekly cricket programme for children and young people with a range of short and long-term health problems in three London hospital schools: Great Ormond Street Hospital, Evelina Children's Hospital and the Royal Marsden. We use cricket to help improve children's hospital experience by having fund and being active to the best of their ability.
