The Callander Cycle Challenge is organised by Motherwell & Wishaw Rotary Club and has been set up with a choice of routes ranging from a fun, family cycle event up to a serious cycling challenge. The event allows participants to raise much needed funds for a charity of their choosing.
Come and enjoy spectacular Scottish scenery within the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park, while cycling one of three route options. Start and finish point is Callander, a beautiful bustling tourist town situated on the River Teith, near Stirling, often described as the gateway to the Highlands.

Route 1- Callander to Strathyre & Return – 18 miles
This is a family route suitable for children (around 8yrs+) and takes around 2-3 hours following the old railway line from Callander, past the Roman fort, up the side of the falls of Dochart and along Loch Lubnaig, across the suspension bridge into Strathyre. Return the same route.
Route 2- Callander to Balquhidder & Return – 25 miles
Starting the same as Route 1, then from Strathyre you follow the unlisted back road through the Strathyre forest to Balquhidder. This is a family route suitable for children (around 8yrs+) and takes around 4-5 hours. Rob Roy McGregor is buried in the church yard in Balquhidder. Approx. 25-miles. Return the same route.
Route 3- Callander to Killin & Return – 48 miles
Starting the same as Route 1 & 2 but from Strathyre pick up the new cycle route at the bridge in Strathyre and follow the path to the Kingshouse Road, picking up the cycle route. Follow the cycle path up above Lochearnhead and into Glen Ogle. The route continues up Glen Ogle with spectacular views down the Glen from the former railway viaduct. At the top of the Glen cross the road and follow the forestry path down into Killin. Remember if you go down into Killin you have to cycle back up. Take time to view the falls in Killin before returning the same route.
You do need to be a seasoned cyclist and fit for this route.
Most of the routes are off road, or along quiet back roads in this beautiful part of Scotland. Check in takes place in the Callander car park, opposite the Dreadnaught Hotel, and further start details will be issued after registration is complete.
Individuals, groups and families are welcome.
