The Stag Cleanup
On Sunday 2nd July,a group of intrepid, highly motivated Rotarians along with a group of parents and children of Kininmonth School went to Mormond Hill to try and restore the Stag to it`s former glory.
Our task was to remove the weeds from between the stones and put them in green bags for disposal later.
We were armed with trowels, small spades and gloves.
We toiled between a couple of showers for three hours, breaking sweat from time to time.
The nine Rotarians tackled the head and antlers and the Kininmonth Group{about 35 in number} tackled the front of the body.
At the end of the day we felt proud of our efforts and we intend going back later in the summer to help complete the work.
Stick on badges saying " I cleaned the Stag" were given to everyone.
Note-
The figure of a Stag was constructed in 1869-70 by a Mr. W.F. Cordiner of Cortes, decorates the east side of Mormond overlooking the village of New Leeds on the A92.
Vanity may have taken a hand in its design for it is even bigger than the Strichen Horse. It was created as a wedding gift.
