Luton Chiltern Rotary Club held its annual Young Chef Competition at Barnfield College recently and this year (its ninth year) saw a record fourteen entrants.

The students are asked to prepare a nutritional two course meal for under £15. In a very close contest the runner up was JULAIKA JABREEN from Denbigh High School and this year’s winner  was GUSTE JUSKEVICIUTE from Houghton Regis Academy (Guste is pictured with Chiltern Rotary Club President Peter White and Tutor Fiona McLean).

Guste will now go forward to the District round of the competition to be held in the New Year. The winner and runner-up each received a trophy, an Amazon Gift Voucher and Certificate. All the competitors received Certificates. The winner also receives an engraved cup and framed certificate for display at her School for the next twelve months.

Barnfield College chef Darren Searle gave up his free time to head the judging panel. Darren said that the standard was again very high and the decision very difficult as only a five points separated all the competitors. Our grateful thanks go to Barnfield College for the use of their kitchen facilities and dining room and to the local schoolteachers for their help and cheerful co-operation.

The event was organised by Rotarian Mick Lord and thanks go to him and his team for a well-run and enjoyable afternoon.
