Chew Valley Primary Schools Football Tournament

Over two hundred primary school pupils from nine schools took part in the Chew Valley Schools Football Tournament on 6th February. There were separate competitions for boys’ and girls’ teams and each was divided into two seeded divisions based on last year’s performance. There were ten boys’ teams and nine girls’ teams taking part. Overall there were 36 matches which took place on the all-weather pitches at Chew Valley School. Each team played every other team in their division. All matches were refereed by Chew Valley Year 9 students as part of their Sports Leadership Course. Despite the cold temperatures that afternoon, all the matches were contested with great enthusiasm and skill.
In the Girls 1st Division the competition was won by Winford Primary School who also were the winners of the Boys 1st Division. In the 2nd Divisions, the Girls Competition was won by Pensford Primary and the Boys Competition won by Ubley Primary.
The Chelwood Bridge Rotary Club sponsored the Competition and provided cups to the winning teams and medals to the winning players. Cups and medals were presented to the winning teams by Rotarian Mike Hedges.
Thanks are also due to Charlotte Foley, the Chew Valley Primary Sports Coordinator, for organising the competition and to the capable students from Chew Valley School who refereed and helped with the organisation.
