Royston President Visits mbrocraft, Kwa-Zulu Natal

At  the Embocraft centre in Hillcrest he was able to see villagers from the impoverished Valley of a Thousand Hills area taking part in the 15-day basic sewing course. This enables them to learn the skills to help themselves and their families and at the end of each course participants are presented with their own machine. Embocraft has now added  welding, carpentry and computer literacy to the training on offer. "It was wonderful to see the hard work and dedication of staff and volunteers, as well as the enthusiasm and optimism of those taking part," David said.

The President's visit also included the Hillcrest Aids Centre Trust, which has also had the support of Royston Rotary Club for some years. The Valley of a Thousand Hills is one of the centres of an AIDS/HIV pandemic in Kwa/Zulu which has seen infection rates of up to 60 per cent. "A visit to the centre is both moving and inspiring," David said. "It offers unconditional care and support to the sick and dying as well as offering economic support to orphans and to families."  There are almost 200 paid and volunteer members working at the trust, many of whom have seen their own communities devastated by disease.
