Hospice pays tribute to Letchworth Howard

Letchworth Howard Rotary Club has received a resounding tribute for its support of Garden House Hospice Care...

Lindsay Abbott of Garden House, guest of honour at the club’s Annual Bridge Drive on March 8th, told participants that the support the club gave the hospice was “just amazing”.

“All the efforts of Letchworth Howard Rotary Club are really appreciated,” she said.

The sell-out event filled the allotted space at Letchworth Settlement and raised a net £770 after expenses, with the Hospice the principal beneficiary. The raffle alone raised £209, and the card-players enjoyed a lavish – and widely praised – home-made tea as well as an excellent afternoon of bridge.

Lindsay Abbott talked about the expansion there had been in services offered by Garden House, notably the growth of Hospice at Home, day services, and the recently launched compassionate neighbour scheme. There were now 100 pairings under the scheme, but there were another 100 people waiting to be paired, with a consequent need for more volunteers willing to devote at least an hour a week, she said.
