One of the biggest book fairs in the North of England is held in Bedale on Sunday (October 27).

Antiquarian and secondhand book and postcard sellers will bring their finest collections of stock to the event in Bedale Hall.

Originally established in 1996, the fair is now held twice-yearly and attracts book lovers from across North Yorkshire further afield.

The fair, which is organised by the Rotary Club of Northallerton Mowbray, opens at 10am and closes at 3.45pm the same day.

There will be thousands of antiquarian and secondhand books, maps and postcards available. Home-made refreshments – teas, coffees, cakes, scones and soup – will be served through the day

Entry is £1.50 per person with under 14s free. There is plenty of free parking available.

Proceeds from the event will be in aid of charitable projects of the Rotary Club – a registered charity operating in the Northallerton and Bedale areas. Projects typically include local youth and community projects as well as responding to emergency and crisis appeals.

The President of the Rotary Club of Northallerton Mowbray, Anne Wall, said the club’s volunteers were looking forward to welcoming book enthusiasts and casual browsers to the event.

She said: “There will be some old, specialist and valuable books available but there will also be many thousands of general interest books covering a huge range of subjects.

“The postcards and maps – many of them featuring the local area – are always popular also.”
