Full programme ahead for Letchworth Howard

Talks on topics as wide-ranging as modern slavery, serving with the Army in Afghanistan, and the history of Wimpole Hall, the National Trust property near Royston, are among the events members of Letchworth Howard Rotary Club can look forward to in the coming Rotary year.

Also planned are a film night, a car treasure hunt, a skittles night and a murder mystery evening, among a host of other activities.  The programme was outlined to club members by Angela Silver, president-elect, at the club’s annual Assembly on May 20.

A wide range of charitable activities is also planned, including the annual bridge drive, the darts challenge, quizzes, a race night, a pantomime outing for disadvantaged children, and much more.

Also on the stocks are a number of themed conversation evenings, when club members discuss such topics as the person who has most inspired them or their most memorable holidays.

A special guest at the Assembly was Karin Weston, assistant district governor, who confided that this was her first Club Assembly since she took up the post.

Karin, a former president of Royston Rotary Club, declared herself “very impressed” with the programme, which included a number of things she would like to come to (and which she was told she would be very welcome at). The conversation evenings also sounded fun; indeed she might suggest her own club introduce similar events.

She felt that Letchworth Howard was a very friendly club, and told Angela: “You look as though you’ve got a great year ahead of you.”
