A busy Spring for Dunstable

Our club has been busy the last couple of months with visits from the two clubs we are twinned with and Kids Out.

At the end of April The Rotary Club of Menen, Belgium, with whom we have been twinned since 1976, visited us at our Tuesday lunch meeting bringing 20 members. They were on there way to north Wales for a few days and then finishing in Chester where some of our club were meeting them.

During May, the Rotary Club of Bourgoin-Isle d’Abeau, France, came with 12 members and guests and stayed for a weekend. We have been twinned with them since 2013. A packed program was planned.
Dunstable Town is twinned with Bourgoin-Jallieu.

Friday evening was spent at Coconut Garden Thai restaurant and on Saturday a visit to Hatfield House was arranged with a French speaking guide followed by a dinner at Flitwick Manor before flying back to Lyon on Sunday morning, a most enjoyable occasion.

On June 12th our annual event, Kids Out, was at Whipsnade Zoo, 760 children from several different organisations and special needs schools visited the zoo for 5 hours of fun and although the week was very wet our day was dry and very pleasant. Months of planning go into this event and most of the Rotary clubs in our district 1260 get involved by sponsoring the children they bring. They enjoy a packed lunch and visit various attractions including the train. Morrisons played a big part this year in providing the lunches.
