1066 Walk

Looking for a way to exercise whilst enjoying the beautiful Sussex countryside? Then why not join us on 29th September 2019 for the 1066 Walk. The walk is organised as a joint venture by The Rotary Club of Battle and St Michael’s Hospice.

The walk has three starting points: Pevensey with a walking distance of 16 miles, Boreham Street with 9 miles or Stevens Crouch with just 4 miles, so the event is really great for people of all abilities. The Walk finish line is within the grounds of Battle Abbey, where delicious complimentary tea and cakes will be served.  You will also get the opportunity after your refreshments, and courtesy of English Heritage, to visit the battlefield and atmospheric ruins of Battle Abbey free of charge.  Dogs are welcome on the Walk, but must be kept on a lead.  The Walk is fully marshalled and participants are provided with comprehensive guidance.

Income and expenses arising from this event are shared equally between the Rotary Club of Battle’s charitable fund and St Michael’s Hospice. The cost of running the Hospice and providing the full range of services to Hospice patients is over £5 million a year.  With around one third of this being provided by the NHS, a balance of around £3.7 million has to be found.  This amounts to over £10,000 per day from voluntary sources.    Sponsorship has enabled Battle Rotary Club to contribute to a diverse range of mainly local charities including the East Sussex Association for the Blind, Care for Carers, the Kent Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance and many others. We are, therefore, very grateful for any sponsorship or donation!

It’s only £7.50 to register. However, this fee only covers only administration costs, so both St Michael’s Hospice and Battle Rotary Club ask that you raise as much sponsorship as you can.
