"Our Planet and its Amazing Oceans" by Gloria Barnett
Marine Biologist, frequent speaker on cruises talking about the wonders of the oceans.  She has also been a speaker at a number of Rotary events, and is an author of children's books about the oceans.  She touches on the challenges that the oceans face as a result of climate change.

"The Clink - a Novel Approach to Prisoner Rehabilitation" by Alberto Crisci
The founder of the Clink Charity that has a number of restaurants open to the public which are inside the prison and run by the prisoners.  They encourage the prisoners to take NVQs and help them to find jobs in the catering industry after release.  Their success is measured by the very low incidence of re-offending from their students post release.

"Saddle, Sand, Sea - Triathlon" by Paddy Montgomery

Paddy grew up in Crandall before attending university in Durham and subsequently moving to London to work.  One evening in a pub Paddy, with the help of university friend Seamus Crawford (and one too many beers!), came up with a huge challenge...Saddle Sand Sea, which consisted of three of the toughest endurance events from around the world:

  • SADDLE - 2015 Race Across Europe, "Toughest non-stop cycling event in the world"
  • SAND - 2016 Marathon des Sables, "The toughest footrace on earth"
  • SEA - 2017 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, "The world's toughest row"

Paddy will be talking about the highs and lows of their three epic journeys and what drove them to do it.

"The Travails of a Hill Farmer's Daughter" by Lydia Slack

The daughter of a Derbyshire hill farmer Lydia gives a very amusing slant on growing up in that environment.  She is presently doing post graduate studies at Oxord.  She will be the last speaker at the event and will ensure that everyone leaves with a smile on their face.

"Overcoming Adversity, a Personal Account" by Simon Weston

Simon takes the opportunity to convey his story to inspire, motivate and encourage those who, like him, want to move on to the next goal - whatever it may be.  Simon believes that only obstacles created by yourself will limit you reaching your desired targets and successes in life.

"Climate Change - a Reality or Myth" by Helen Young

Helen was a BBC TV weather presenter and ultimately the Head of that service.  She is also a popular speaker on the cruise ship circuit and these days is in demand as a speaker about climate change and global warming.
