Our District’s First Junior Technology Tournament

Thursday 28 November 2019 will see our first Junior Technology Tournament taking place in Sunderland. In March, we ran our first Rotary Technology Tournament for senior schools and this was so successful that, as well as running this event again next March, we have decided to run a similar event for primary schools. Primary Schools across our District have been invited to put in up to 16 teams of 6 pupils (to a maximum of 2 teams per school) , each of which will work with their teacher and a Rotary mentor on the project.

During the morning, the youngsters will learn about building structures and how they can use basic engineering principles to solve simple problems. In the afternoon, the teams will develop their own water processing and filtration system to produce clean drinkable water. Northumbrian Water is one our key sponsors for the event and will provide us with support throughout the day.

All of our Rotary Clubs are invited to get involved with the Tournament; by joining the team as mentors; by making a cash contribution to the Tournament funds; or by supporting their local primary school with transport to the venue and coaching/mentoring of their team.

AG Chris Baylis is again leading the delivery of the event, supported by the same core team of District officers who ran the Senior Schools event in March, though there is always space for mew members of the team. Contact Chris for more information, or to make a contribution to the event funding.
