The District 1230 final of the competition was held on Sunday 1st March in The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with 26 competitors participating.

The Conservatoire is an ideal concert setting for aspiring young musicians to perform. It provides an atmosphere and an excellent acoustic to allow the competitors to showcase their talents.

13 instrumentalists and 13 vocalists competed to be the winner in each section. As has been the case in previous years the standard of performance was extremely high. Th adjudicators, Wendy--Anne and John Wilson – yes, they are a husband and wife team – praised the competitors for their musical technique, musicianship, communication and sheer performing skills.

The winner and runners-up each proceed to the next stage of the competition, the Regional final which is an all Scottish event to be held on Sunday 8 March in Fife. The four competitors going through are:

Instrumental winner (Piano): Liana Storey, a pupil at Williamwood High School {RC Eastwood.

Instrumental runner-up (Bassoon): Fergus Butt, a pupil at Hermitage Academy (RC Helensburgh Garelochside)

Vocal winner: Elie Guevara, a pupil at Williamwood High School (RC Eastwood)

Vocal runner-up: Archie Inns, a pupil at The High School of Glasgow (RC Kelvin)

Unfortunately, the photograph shows only the winner and runner-up of the vocal category being presented with the trophy by Iain Shaw, Chairman of the District Youth Service Committee. The two winning instrumentalists who performed in the morning were playing concerts in the afternoon.
